The former player of Brescia and Sampdoria, among others, Sergio Volpi spoke about the qualities of the very young Tonali
Former midfielder Sergio Volpi, once he hung up his boots, started coaching the very young of Brescia, where Sandro Tonali also passed.
Volpi spoke about the Rossoneri to the microphones of MilanNews.it
Mister, you were the first coach to have followed Sandro Tonali in the Brescia youth academy. What memories do you have of that period? – “I had the pleasure and the good fortune of coaching Sandro in the Giovanissimi of Brescia. The great qualities were already visible but what struck me most was his maturity. He was a step ahead of his peers. He had a lot of passion and desire to emerge, always a lot of determination and desire to win came to the field. This led him to obtain the results that everyone is talking about today“.
What do you feel like saying to Tonali today? – “I am happy to have trained him, I hope I have left him a good memory. I believe that everything he is earning is thanks to him and all the other coaches who have followed him over the years. It couldn’t have been just me who made him what he is today ”.
After the explosion at Brescia, Tonali moved to Milan, how do you explain the crisis of his first year in the Rossoneri? – “I believe that taking a step from Brescia to Milan is not easy. Sandro needed time to settle into a club used to winning, where responsibilities and tensions are greater. At Milan he spent a year of apprenticeship to then prove his true worth. Knowing him, I’m sure that every day at training at Milanello, surrounded by great players and champions, he will always try to improve and will not be wrong. He knows where he wants to go and he knows that to stay at certain levels he doesn’t have to relax“.
