Volleyball World Championship takes place in Poland and Slovenia

Poland and Slovenia will host the men’s volleyball world championships this summer.

These two countries, and possibly other co-hosts, will take over the hosting role from Russia, which was stripped of the World Cup after invading Ukraine in early March. The world association FIVB announced this without specifying a date. The tournament was scheduled from August 26 to September 11.

The national team of Ukraine join the suspended Russia in the field of World Cup participation as they are the next best place in the world rankings according to the FIVB. As an expression of European solidarity, other nations could be named as co-organisers in addition to Poland and Slovenia. This will be communicated at a later date.

The FIVB had already canceled Russia as a stage in the Nations League. Games in Russia were originally planned for the women from the end of June in Ufa and for the men from the beginning of July in Kemerevo. The replacement organizers are to be named shortly.
