The volleyball players of Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto had imagined their debut in the Eredivisie very differently. Against Peelpush, the team of the duo Erwin Sikkema and Mark Afman was not involved at all and lost without a chance with 3-0.
The women’s premier league finally started this weekend after a long preparation. After a number of promising results, combined with good volleyball, Sudosa-Desto started the game in Meijel with the necessary expectations.
,,We went there with the idea that we had a good chance of winning”, said Sikkema. , Then this result will come as a sledgehammer.” There was no win for a moment. Afman: ,,We didn’t have a single moment in the game. We mostly played against ourselves.”
Cindy Zandstra deployed as a diagonal
,,Of course it was the pass, but everything went wrong. We had no serve pressure ourselves. And once we got into the rally, we wanted to decide it too quickly. Sometimes you have to be patient and score the point in three times. We definitely need to take steps in that direction.”
The team from Assen started with Danique Aardema as playmaker. The main blockers Lisa Boer and Eline Mosselaar, while Kirsten Wessels and Manon Torenbeek acted as passers/runners. Cindy Zandstra started as a diagonal in the absence of the injured Paula Boonstra. The basic team was completed by libero Danique Hamming.

Sudosa-Desto was able to keep up with the opening set until 11-11, after which the team ran into more and more problems due to a weak pass. The result was a hopeless 25-18. The same result followed in the next two sets.
Sikkema: ,,We have to see the images again to get a good look at what happened. Then we will prepare for Wednesday’s race.” Then Apollo 8 comes to Assen. ,,The button will have to be turned quickly, because we have to be there on Wednesday in our own hall and with the support of our audience.”
