Jesper Schut and Jaron Spiegelaar leave the Groningen volleyball team Samen Lycurgus to play one level lower in the top division.
Schut starts working as a diagonal at DIO Bedum and Spiegelaar makes the switch to Sudosa Desto in Assen. Spiegelaar, who grew up in Nieuw-Buinen, will play as a libero for the time being, but may later move to the position of passer-runner. That depends on how his shoulder injury develops.
The 23-year-old Spiegelaar was part of the selection of Eredivisie team Lycurgus for three seasons, winning the national cup three times and the Supercup twice. ,,After three seasons I chose to take a step back to get more playing time”, he says. ,,I have learned a lot at Lycurgus in recent years. I am grateful for that.”
Social career takes priority
The equally old Schut chooses after two seasons as a center forward with the multiple Groningen champion for his social career. ,,Apart from the fact that I just need playing time, I enjoy my role as manager at Enexis”, says the Groninger. “I will be working there full time. The past two seasons have been a special experience for me. With nice trips and wonderful competitions with two nice selections. I enjoyed it.”
