Italy-Germany 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22)

It is a European-sized Italy that easily obtains the fourth victory in the Nations League in the opening match of the second stage in the Philippines. The Azzurri, led on the bench by Nicola Giolito as De Giorgi and Caponeri are blocked in Italy by the consequences of Covid, win easily against a modest Germany (coached by former Polish world champion Michal Winiarski) who never seems able to put the European champions in difficulty. Friday at 13 is the turn of Japan of Ishikawa, Nishida and Takahashi.

Nicola Giolito sends Giannelli-Romanò, Michieletto-Lavia, Anzani-Galassi, Balaso free. Winiarski, on the other hand, Zimmermann-Weber, Fromm-Reichert, Maase-Krage, Zenger free. First set all easy for the blues who force a serve and are deadly against the wall. Germany can count on a good Weber to the maximum but never manages to put Italy in difficulty. In the second set Giannelli and his teammates slow down a bit in defense allowing Germany to stay in the game more or less until mid-set when the Azzurri just need to push a little more in attack to take off. Not much changes in the third set in which Italy immediately takes off and then manages, even if with some errors that keep Germany in play, the advantage until the end.
