Volley Menen fights his way to a second…

Menen started his return in the semi-finals of the cup with a 3-1 win in the first leg against Haasrode-Leuven. That in itself was great because Menen is having a difficult time in the competition and Haasrode-Leuven presents itself this year as a potential challenger for Maaseik and even Roeselare.

Menen therefore knew that it had two trump cards: winning the match meant a place in the final. But even if they lost, there were still opportunities in the golden set.

The home team started strong and convincing. In no time Haasrode-Leuven had taken set one with 25-15. But Menen did not allow himself to be sidelined mentally and gradually grew into the match. Although set two also went to the home team with 25-22. In set three things went evenly. Haasrode-Leuven had to fight to win that set and also the match: 27-25.

Menen then struck in the Golden set. Mentally, the border team fully believed in its chances, Haasrode-Leuven had already given a lot. The visitors suddenly showed a completely different face and the plan also worked out well: Menen won the Golden set with 11-15 and is thus assured of a second consecutive cup final.

On February 10, a rematch against Knack Roeselare, which defeated Aalst in its semi-final, awaits in the Sportpaleis. Another appointment with history for Menen.
