Serge Gnabry missed the three international matches of the DFB selection in June due to an injury. As sporting director Rudi Völler explained at the “Bild 100” event in Berlin on Friday, national coach Hansi Flick will not be playing the FC Bayern Munich attacking player because of his ankle problems.
“He was able to play for Bayern in the last few games, but has had problems for weeks,” reported Völler. It was therefore agreed between the players, the national coach and the doctors that the 27-year-old would not be considered for the games against Ukraine on June 12 and four days later in Poland and against Colombia.
The 26-man squad of the DFB for the international matches in June
Market value: €40 million | These 26 players are part of Hansi Flick’s squad for the internationals against Ukraine, Colombia and Poland. All market values as of June 2nd.
No reason for Gnabry’s absence was given in the official DFB press release on the squad nomination. Flick had recently renounced several proven players. In the current squad, for example, Niklas Sül from Borussia Dortmund and Thomas Müller from FC Bayern Munich are missing again. Gnabry had recently performed well with the German record champions and scored several goals in the final spurt of the season.
