Atakaş Hatayspor’s coach Volkan Demirel, who drew 1-1 with Hull City, one of the British Championship teams, in the friendly match, said that after months they went straight to the field and this was very meaningful for them.
Demirel made a statement to the press after the match played at Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Stadium and all incomes were donated for earthquake victims.
Demirel thanked everyone who hosted them in this special meeting in Bursa and said:
“It was meaningful for us to be here on the field. There is a Hatayspor that stands upright 5 months and 3 days after the earthquake. Football is a big organization. A team that came into existence out of nothing in this organization. I hope that there has been hope for the earthquake victims as well, and everyone can find their home, their workplace. “Our only goal is to give hope and light to our earthquake survivors and to raise them up again. Our goal in the new season is to survive. Thank God we survived. Our only goal is to make the people of Hatay happy.”
