FC Volendam loses Givairo Read to national champion Feyenoord. The defender, who celebrated his seventeenth birthday last Friday, signed a contract in Rotterdam this afternoon until the summer of 2026.
The right-footed Read switched from the amateurs of Zeeburgia to the youth academy of FC Volendam in the summer of 2017. Trainer Wim Jonk made his debut in March in the home match against Fortuna Sittard (2-1). He replaced left-back Derry John Murkin in the 85th minute. Five times Read sat on the bench at the first without making minutes.
He came into action 24 times for the Volendam team. Read scored one goal and could not prevent Jong Volendam from being relegated from the second division last season. A year earlier, as a 15-year-old, he had also made quite a few minutes in the Young team: he was in the base five times and was allowed to come on six times.
Volendam has recently tried to sign the talent, who played five times for the Orange Under 17s. Read rejected that offer. As a result, the club does not receive a transfer fee, but it does receive a training allowance.
