Volendam professional football players shoot a botter for charity

Robert Mühren, the best football player in the Kitchen Champion Division, is never afraid to kick a ball for a good cause. Together with FC Volendam teammate Damon Marini and football analyst Kees Kwakman, they shot into a botter from the Dijk. And this for the Huis aan het Water in Katwoude, which offers help to cancer patients.

Darami and Mühren shoot into the hold of the botter with ease. For former football player Kees Kwakman it has been a while since he played professional football. “I did practice yesterday, but it was not easy.” He still shoots the ball a little stiffly, which bounces off the edge of the ship. All three are participating because they think it is a very good initiative. “I’ve also lost relatives to cancer,” says Mühren, “we all have to deal with it.”

Leukemia

Darami tells about a niece who got leukemia at a very young age and went through a rough time. “That was very drastic and we as a family also had a hard time with that. Fortunately, she has recovered and is now a beautiful 20-year-old girl.”

The initiative comes from Robin Küller, musician (3JS) and volunteer in the Huis aan het Water. “I ended up there through my father-in-law and it’s fantastic what they do there.”

devastated

Especially when cancer patients come out of the hospital, they often walk around devastated. “Huis aan het Water is just there for them. You can talk to psychologists, there are physiotherapists who can help you get into a better condition. But we also have all kinds of activities such as claying, writing and singing to clear your head.”

You would think that professional football has little to do with cancer. But according to Kwakman you are wrong about that. “Recently it was in the news that Seuntjes, the former striker of NAC, has to do with cancer, with a tumor. And that indicates that even if you are young, healthy and sporty, it can come along in no time. It’s good to think about it like now today.”

On 9 July, a sponsored run will be held at the Hemmeland in Monnickendam and you can leave a comment for that from today. The proceeds also go to the House on the Water.
