After four years in Volendam, Florent Bourget will leave the club at the end of this season. The mid-builder returns to his native country and has signed a two-year contract with Nancy. “I would like to develop myself. I am French and could not pass up this opportunity”, says a proud Bourget.
Nancy is last in the French handball competition. There is therefore a good chance that Bourget will play at the second level of France next season. “Perhaps I could have played at the highest level, but then the chance would have been smaller that I would become a basic player. I prefer to play a lot at the second level than not at the first level. At my age you have to play a lot.”
Other options
The 23-year-old handball player says he had several offers. For example, clubs from North Macedonia, France and Germany showed interest. “In terms of level and contract, Nancy was the best for me. The trainer was also very enthusiastic and I think the relationship between trainer and player is very important.”
Four years of Volendam
After four and a half years in the fishing village, Bourget’s Volendam period is coming to an end. “I had a great time and I have matured. We only took the cup. Unfortunately, we did not qualify for the Final Four this year. Now we are going to compete for the national championship. national title to leave Volendam.”
Joost Ooms, general manager of Volendam, is very proud that Bourget is taking this step. “He has grown from a young boy to leader of the team in four years. He has earned his spurs at Volendam. First the European Championship selection and now this transfer,” says Ooms.
