That viewing figures are disappointing when the sparrows fall dead from the roof is logical, but two programs made it very colorful last night: the successor to The Voice and Tino Martin live in concert.
Oh, oh, oh: what a drama again for John de Mol. The media billionaire who once string together successes, nowadays has a very low one success rate. Last night the ‘successor’ of his TV child The Voice started on SBS 6, but The Talent Scouts with flop presenter Kalvijn does not make a dent in a packet of butter.
Talent Scouts flops
How many people watched The Talent Scouts? Only 372 thousand, good for a meager 11 percent market share. That is still a ridiculously low score despite the beautiful summer weather, because the competition was really asleep.
NPO 1 had a choir program with a failed Op1 presenter and RTL 4 brought a quiz rerun with Beau van Erven Dorens. Both titles did better: 659,000 and 571,000 viewers, good enough for a spot in the top 15 viewing figures. Kalvijn is far from that: he remains stuck in 21st place.
All eyes on Tina
All eyes are of course on Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6 who is now the authoritative viewing figure analyst in the Netherlands. What does she say? “This can not be true”, screams them on her analytics channel. “John de Mol must have just thought that when he saw the figures of his new talent show.”
Ah, so she’s yelling on behalf of John. He must be very sick of it, says Tina. “So few viewers with so little competition. Extra painful: RTL 4 broadcast a free repeat of Weet Ik Veel, but Beau scored even higher. What a painful hassle for John de Mol and SBS 6. ANOTHER flop.”
Fiftieth flop
How many flops has John now scored on SBS 6? “This is really his 50th flop for SBS 6 I suspect. Wouldn’t it be better for John to produce only for RTL 4? That goes better for him: The Floor was immediately sold to the USA. And Calvin? After Avastars and now this, the chance that we will see him present a program is very small.”
Okay, back to RTL 4 for a moment. So that scored nicely with that Beau rerun, but the viewers zapped away en masse when Tino Martin came into the picture afterwards. Pretty crazy in itself, because you would expect quite a few sensation zappers. Will the singer make it to the end? Is he starting to double tongue again? Can we spot a bottle of Sambuca somewhere?
Tino also mega flop
A double disappointment: no sensation zappers and no drunk Tino either. From a quarter to ten in the evening, only 124 thousand people (4 percent) watched it: very sad. Those are just three people with a ratings box who are hanging the washing outside while the TV is on inside.
Tina: “Not only John de Mol, also Tino Martin will not believe what he sees and will be very disappointed. Only 124 thousand viewers watched his concert in Carré. huh? Has RTL4 ever seen such a low primetime score before? How is that possible? Doesn’t Tino appear to be as popular on TV as in the country?”
One small consolation for Hilversum: tonight it will be choppy weather.
