VMAs: Blackpink didn’t take part despite being nominated

None of the four members could be located at this year’s awards show.

Despite being nominated, the members of Korean girl group Blackpink did not appear at the MTV Video Music Awards. The reason for this is unclear, especially since Rosé had attended several events in the area in the previous week. She was spotted at a fashion event in New York as well as at a party at the “Electric Lady Studios,” where she was photographed with Taylor Swift.

Blackpink’s song “Pink Venom”, from their 2022 album BORN PINK, was in the running for four awards in the categories of Best K-Pop Video, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction and Best Editing. The quartet was also nominated for “Best Group Video” and “Show Of The Summer”. While they won the awards for “Best Choreography” and “Group Of The Year,” the award for Best K-Pop Video ended up going to Stray Kids with “S-Class.”

But in addition to the VMAs, the group around Rosé, Lisa, Jennie and Jisoo also had a successful year. In April 2023, Blackpink became the first-ever K-pop act to headline the world-famous Coachella Festival. Rosé enthusiastically told Billboard: “It feels absolutely surreal. I think performing at Coachella in 2019 was the moment when we as Blackpink really woke up and were motivated to keep dreaming and wanted to dream bigger. But we never expected to headline a festival that we all admired and hoped to be in the audience at some point.”
