Russia’s Aleksandr Vlasov has won the Tour de Romandie. In the final climbing time trial over 15 kilometers from Aigle to Villars, the Bora-hansgrohe rider was by far the best. Vlasov thus deprived the Australian Rohan Dennis of Jumbo-Visma the leader’s jersey.
Dennis had taken over the lead after the first stage from British prologue winner Ethan Hayter, who had fallen behind after falling behind. On Saturday, the Australian time trial specialist held up well in a mountain stage, won by Colombian Sergio Higuita.
But against Vlasov, Dennis was unable to cope in the race against the clock. The Russian was good for a time of 33 minutes and 40 seconds. The German Simon Geschke was second in the time trial at more than half a minute from Vlasov, followed by the Swiss Gino Mäder. Steven Kruijswijk was good for the fifth time. Dennis was only 22nd.
second and third
In the final standings, Mäder climbed to second place, Geschke finished third. Kruijswijk closed the six-day stage race in seventh.
Vlasov already won a stage and the final classification in the Tour of Valencia this year. A week and a half ago, the 26-year-old Russian finished third in the Walloon Arrow.
