FOOTBALL – VKW has suffered a sour defeat on its own field in the 1st division F. The leader lost in 3-2 to VV Heerenveen, which was eighth. With Hoogezand’s 1-0 victory over Germanicus, the Groningers are the new leader. SVBO and Roden did good business because the team from Barger-Oosterveld beat GRC Groningen in 4-2 and Roden was too strong for Jubbega in 2-1.
VKW was the dominant match against the lower placed Heerenveen in the first 20 minutes on their own field, but the opportunities created were not completed. They even missed once for empty goal. The first goal then fell just on the other side. The visitors scored the 0-1 before half time on the basis of Bram Duijker, and then put the 0-2 on the board just after half time. This time it was Melik Ismail who worked the ball behind the Borkers’ keeper.
In the 80th minute of the game, VKW got the hang of it again. An own goal resulted in the tiebreaker of the match, but not much later Mehdi Charaf-Eddine decided the game for Heerenveen by scoring the 1-3. A late goal by Durk de Jong could not change that.
‘It must be better’
“A lot went wrong today”, says VKW trainer Karlo Meppelink. “We were very sloppy in possession and even opportunities for open goal were missed. Then you start to fear that the goal will fall on the other side and that happened. At the halftime score of 1-0 we had the feeling that everything was still possible , but two minutes after the break it was already 2-0. We really want to after that, but we didn’t deserve to win with our game. Nothing worked for us and everything with the opponent. It can only get better from here and it should.
Meppelink is not yet too sad about the loss of the lead in the 1st class F. “It is not so bad to have to give up the lead in this phase. Let Hoogezand be the leader. In the last game of the season we play against them, and if we are on top after that, that’s perfect.”
Motivated SVBO makes slipper good
SVBO had to make up for it after the 5-0 defeat at home against Hoogezand. Marc Hegeman’s team started the game against subtopper GRC Groningen furiously. Quentin Brands and Ronald Gerdes scored two goals before half-time and Emiel Seigers put his team at 3-0 just after half-time. GRC made a connecting goal with Niek Snippe at 3-1, but it was soon Twan Berends who killed all chances for the Groningers. In the very last minute, the home team made it 2-4, but there was not much more than that.
“We played well concentrated and didn’t do anything crazy,” Hegeman said afterwards. “We scored great goals and were enjoying the game. I have never lost to GRC, so it is a great team for us to play against. Of course it was also an important game now that GRC is so close in the rankings, “But also to make up for last week’s loss. So everyone can win or lose against everyone in this class. Today we made only good choices and the will to win allowed us to decide the game in our favor.”
Moderate Roden the best in Friesland
On a visit to direct competitor Jubbega, a dull Roden was strong enough today to pull a victory over the line. Roden got off to a good start and that resulted in a goal for Rik Renkema after just four minutes. Jubbega then went on to play more offensively and forced Roden back. However, the team of trainer Freddy Strating could rely on keeper Rik Oosterloo, who kept his goal clean.
In the second half, Roden doubled the score after a nice counterattack that was completed by Nick Griepsma. Because Jubbega made a connecting goal five minutes before the end, the final phase became even more exciting. However, Roden held on and secured three important points.
“After a strong start from us, Jubbega came into the game better and we started to play too passively, so we didn’t really become dangerous anymore,” admits Freddy Strating. “After the break we wanted to pick it up again to play more offensively, but that didn’t work. Jubbega played very opportunistically in that phase and that made them dangerous. We can make the 2-0 from a counter and then you hope that the loot “But that turned out not to be the case. Fortunately, our keeper Rik Oosterloo did a good job today and certainly stopped a few balls that would otherwise have been goals.”
position
Due to the defeat, VKW drops one place in the ranking of the 1st division F. The team from Westerbork is second with 28 points from 14 matches. Hoogezand is one point off and has also played one game less. SVBO is sixth after today with 19 points and Roden ninth with 18 points. GOMOS, which didn’t play today, is eighth with 18 points as well.
