The final result of Eurovision has angered many fans. In particular, the 50 percent influence of the professional council on the outcome of the competition seems unfair to many.

Now the five fans have left Change.org-website of a people’s initiative demanding the complete removal of the professional council from Eurovision.

– We, the loyal fans of the Eurovision Song Contest, are deeply concerned about the inconsistencies in the contest’s voting, which have jeopardized the fairness and integrity of the contest. The final result of the 2023 competition shocked the visa community when Sweden ended up as the winner based solely on the votes of the professional council, even though Finland received significantly high scores from the public, the people’s initiative reads.

Those who signed the people’s initiative are not satisfied that Loreen won the Eurovision Song Contest, even though Käärijä was clearly the public’s favorite. MISC

Sweden’s visa representative Loreen beat Finland Wrapper by a margin of only 57 points. Loreen received a total of 583 votes, of which 243 were from the public and 340 from the professional councils. The audience gave the highest 376 points of the competition to Käärijä, but the judges gave the artist only 150 points. If only the public had been allowed to vote, Käärijä would have been crowned the winner of the competition.

– This case highlights the urgent need to renew the Eurovision voting system to ensure that the final result reflects the true opinion of the public. We believe that public votes should be of paramount importance in choosing the winner of this beloved event, the people’s initiative emphasizes.

Crystallized in the people’s initiative, transparency and honesty are required for the competition. In addition, they demand professional bodies to investigate the inconsistency of the visa vote and correct the situation immediately.

– This could include enforcement measures, such as adjusting the weighting of juries so that they do not overshadow the public vote. Or consider a system where only public votes decide the final result, the initiative suggests.

At the time of writing the article, the people’s initiative has already received more than 2,200 signatures, but the goal is to get at least 2,500.
