Visitors to Blaauw Observatory in Groningen peer through one of the largest telescopes in the Netherlands

The Blaauw Observatory was open to the public on Saturday evening during the Night of the Night. Visitors peered at the starry sky through a telescope.

The observatory is part of the University of Groningen and participated in the nineteenth edition of the Night of the Night. This is an initiative of the Nature and Environment Federations to draw attention to light pollution.

Major consequences of light pollution

The consequences of light pollution, caused by cities, ports and derricks, among other things, are serious, partly because the day and night rhythm of people and animals is disrupted.
