Visitors enter the new Middelkerke dike on Open Site Day

The construction company Stadsbader has been working on an impressive new seawall in Middelkerke since the beginning of last year. This building must become a green promenade with dunes and also fits in with the master plan ‘Coastal safety’ of the Flemish government. It will thus help protect our coastline until 2050 against flooding caused by severe storms.

The current second phase of the works will tackle the stretch of seawall from Noordzeelaan to Rauschenbergplein in Westende and should be completed by the summer. From September, the construction workers will then work on the last strip, from Rauschenbergplein to the Grand Hotel Bellevue. If all goes well, the new dike will be completed in June next year.

Middelkerke is undergoing a complete metamorphosis because the spectacular casino against the beach is also under construction.
