Media partner AT5 does not leave the city very often for a report, but we are of course happy to make an exception for the Ajaxlaan in Eindhoven. Living in your very own city on a street named after your biggest rival, it will happen to you. You have to know that you are there, because there is no (legible) street sign to be found. “They are demolished so often that the municipality has stopped replacing them,” says one of the residents.
Of course, the street in Eindhoven is not named after the most beautiful club in the country, but after the Greek hero. “Yes, it’s a Godenbuurt here, isn’t it,” says a resident. Despite the fact that it is not named after the Amsterdam football club, most residents are quite fed up with the name. “Yes, it is very painful,” says a PSV fan. “I can’t change it, but I try to cover the sign as much as possible,” he says. “Then it’s still a bit bearable.”
“I have had a season ticket for Ajax for 25 years”
But there is a resident who is very happy with the name of the street. “I have had a season ticket for Ajax for 25 years,” he says with a laugh. He has no problems with other residents, although his neighbor is a PSV fan. “Well, it’s going well in itself, we get along well,” says the neighbor of the Ajax player.
Hand in hand
They stand next to each other in front of AT5’s camera. “Hand in hand? Oh no, that’s another club.” Ajax will play the cup final against PSV tomorrow at 6 p.m. on the field of ‘that other club’, in De Kuip in Rotterdam.
Here is the Ajaxlaan in Eindhoven:
And believe it or not. But also in Rotterdam there is an Ajax street. The report we made about this earlier can be seen below.
