Visiting growth brilliant Micky van de Ven: defender plays everything in Wolfsburg

Footballer Micky van de Ven is now a fixed value at VfL Wolfsburg. Last year, the 21-year-old central defender made the switch from FC Volendam to the German sub-topper. “It’s such a big difference with what you were used to. It’s great that I play everything now,” says a proud Van de Ven.

With 3.5 million euros, Van de Ven became the most expensive player ever from the first division. The transfer of the talent was forced through an arbitration case. Van de Ven has now put that behind him and is looking ahead. At Wolfsburg, ‘Mister one hundred percent’ did not miss a minute this season. “That had to be done with some painkillers,” laughs Van de Ven.

The fans and the German news are also enthusiastic about the North Hollander. “I think he is a very talented player. He has a good left leg. Not many defenders have that in Germany,” says Leonard Hartmann of the Wolfsburger Nachrichten.

‘Wolfsburg is different’

Wolfsburg is not known for a city with a lot to experience. The defender expresses himself politically correct about the Volkswagen city. “It’s different, let’s keep it that way. It’s good for young players to focus on football. You have few distractions,” says Van de Ven.

World Cup with Orange

The footballer is in the pre-selection of Orange for the World Cup. As a result, he has a serious chance of going to Qatar. And that while he never made minutes in the shirt of the Dutch national team. “I was so upset. It was my first call-up and then immediately for a World Cup selection, which is of course great,” says Van de Ven, who is a fixed value at the Dutch Juniors.
