Musk proposes F1 races between pure electric vehicle and petrol/hybrid
The Tesla boss was happy about a good discussion during his visit and also brought a suggestion with him: “Entertaining discussion about aero and battery technology in Formula 1. I suggested an F1 race between pure electric vehicle and petrol/hybrid”, he commented on the photo of his visit with his son X to the Red Bull team.
Fun discussion of aero & battery technology in F1.
I proposed a pure EV vs gas/hybrid F1 race.

So Musk’s visit to Formula 1 doesn’t seem to have been just a family outing.
Red Bull and the other teams initially didn’t respond to Musk’s suggestion.
Formula 1 still more popular as an electric alternative
The Formula 1 organizer Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has been offering Formula E as an electric alternative to Formula 1 since 2014, but the new racing series with formula cars with electric motors cannot match the popularity of the original. However, hybrid engines have been used in Formula 1 since 2014. According to the new engine regulations for Formula 1, which the FIA passed last summer and which are to apply from 2026, the electric share of hybrid drives will increase to up to 50 percent. In addition, the internal combustion engines are to be operated 100 percent with sustainable fuel from this point in time. According to the sustainability strategy of Formula 1, the sport should become carbon-free by 2030.
Whether in the future, as Musk has suggested, there will actually be a race between electric cars and pure or hybrid combustion engines – possibly with the participation of Tesla electric car-Page – is coming, but it remains to be seen for the time being.
