Visa Cash App RB, the Formula 1 racing team formerly known as AlphaTauri, has appointed former FIA employee Tim Goss as its new technical director and confirmed Alan Permane as race director.
The Anglo-Italian team announced three key hires on Monday afternoon after undergoing a major restructure under new team boss Laurent Mekies. In addition to Goss and Permane, Red Bull aerodynamicist Guillaume Cattelani was also hired as deputy head of technology.
Goss will report to Mekies in the newly created position of Chief Technical Officer, having recently stepped down as FIA Monoposti Technical Director. Goss, who previously worked at McLaren from 1990 to 2018, will take up his new role in October, nine months after leaving the FIA.
“I’m excited to be joining Visa Cash App RB at the start of its new era,” said Goss. “I’m looking forward to working with team boss Laurent Mekies and with technical boss Jody Egginton. It’s a team with great pride and heritage, with some exceptional people already working there. There’s an exciting challenge ahead, but I think the team is well equipped to master them.”
As previously reported by Motorsport-Total.com, the team has also appointed former Alpine technician Permane as race director to oversee all operations at the track – a similar role he held with the team at Enstone until his dismissal last July had exercised.
Permane is looking forward to Formula 1
“After a break of several months, it is nice to return to racing with the Visa Cash App RB team,” said Permane. “From many years of experience, I know how professional, dedicated and competitive the people at this racing team are, and I can’t wait to see where this spirit can take the team in the future.”
Eventually Cattelani was brought in by sister team Red Bull to act as deputy to technical director Egginton. According to Egginton, Cattelani’s “focus on aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics will allow us to refine and develop this year’s car, while Tim’s attitude will give us the structure we need to develop cars that will continue to improve the team’s performance in the years to come will continue to increase.”
For the past three years, Cattelani has been chief engineer at Red Bull, having arrived in Milton Keynes in 2020 after six years as aerodynamics boss at McLaren and a shorter stint at Lotus.
Commenting on the new signings, Mekies said: “The appointments of Tim, Guillaume and Alan bring a huge amount of valuable expertise to the team. I have no doubt that they will help take the team to the next level in Formula 1 bring to.
“We already have a very strong and very experienced group in the team and the addition of highly qualified individuals such as Tim, Guillaume and Alan will strengthen our capabilities and help us meet the highest technical standards, both in the factory and on the track .”
