Virologist Niesters: ‘Corona wave from China is gigantic, but no reason to panic’

“We are not doing anything now”, Niesters urges the Dutch authorities to take action. “I would not like it if one in two passengers on my flight had corona. So: what are you going to do now?”, he raises. “You have to keep monitoring it.”

Italy, Spain and the United States have now announced measures on their own. Niesters understands that. “You have to keep an eye on it randomly. Go test at four major airports in Europe: London, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. Or at least ask for it. To measure is to know,” says the UMCG virologist. “We know that the virus will come in one way or another, we shouldn’t have any illusions about that, but it’s about the massiveness. So monitoring and testing, preferably in a European context.”
