With summaryLiverpool failed to win the Merseyside derby against Everton. With Virgil van Dijk in action the entire game it ended at Goodison Park in 0-0. So no (approved) goals, but it was certainly not a boring game.
It is Liverpool’s third loss of points of the season in the Premier League. The team of coach Jürgen Klopp has nine points after six games. Everton have four points.
The home team had the first big chance: Tom Davies hit the post after half an hour. Just before half-time, Liverpool insisted and the visitors came close to the opening goal. After a ball hit the crossbar, Luis Díaz had the chance to make it 0-1, but he hit the post.
Liverpool dominated in the second half, but Everton thought they would take the lead. Conor Coady cheered the home crowd after a cross from Anthony Gordon, but the VAR intervened: offside. In the final phase, both teams had opportunities to take the win, but goalkeepers Jordan Pickford (Everton) and Alisson (Liverpool) excelled and kept their goal clean. Although the post was needed at Everton in the final seconds after a shot by Mohamed Salah. That is how it remained at 0-0 in the Liverpool derby.
Virgil van Dijk was shown a yellow card in the 76th minute for a major charge on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
Hakim Ziyech
Chelsea escaped unscathed in derby against West Ham United. The team of German trainer Thomas Tuchel came back from a deficit (2-1) in the final phase and was then lucky that the referee rejected Maxwel Cornet’s equalizer.
Mikhail Antonio gave West Ham the lead in the 63rd minute and seemed to compound the problems for Chelsea, who have not started the season too well. Substitutes Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz, however, helped Chelsea to the win. Fifteen minutes before the end, Chilwell equalized by working the ball into the goal, after having first taken it with his head, past keeper Lukasz Fabianski (1-1). Chilwell enabled Havertz to make it 2-1 in the 88th minute.
Almost immediately after Havertz’s goal, Cornet scored the equalizer. Referee Andy Madley was called off to watch a recent clash between West Ham midfielder Jarrod Bowen and Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. To West Ham’s anger, Madley ruled Bowen had committed a foul. Chelsea, where Hakim Ziyech remained on the bench, thanks to the difficult victory passes Liverpool in the ranking and is currently fifth with 10 points. Liverpool have 9 points.
Spurs second
Tottenham Hotspur climbed to second place thanks to a win over Fulham: 2-1. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Harry Kane scored for the team of coach Antonio Conte, which is on 14 points after six matches. Kenny Tete played the entire game at Fulham.
Leeds United lost 5-2 to Brentford. Colombian Luis Sinisterra was accurate once for Leeds. The Dutchman Crysencio Summerville replaced Sinisterra after an hour. Defender Pascal Struijk, who is included in the provisional selection of the Dutch national team for the first time, played the entire game at Leeds.
Newcastle United, with defender Sven Botman in the base, drew against Crystal Palace: 0-0. Bournemouth trailed Nottingham Forest 2-0 at halftime, but still won: 2-3. Former Feyenoord player Marcos Senesi stayed on the bench at Bournemouth.
