Violinist and conductor Pekka Kuusisto will be on sick leave for the rest of the year. He told about his decision on Facebook.
46-year-old Kuusisto says that he heard from his doctor friend years ago that musicians and actors are the last to agree to sick leave. After waiting for many interesting projects for a long time, the violinist decided that now is the time to take a breather.
– In my situation, the only reasonable option was to take time for myself. I’m going to spend the next few weeks calming down, admiring the scenery and I’m going to find my way back, Kuusisto writes.
– I still consider my profession a huge gift and I look forward to returning in January, Kuusisto continues in his update.
Kuusisto’s year has been tough. His brother, Jaakko Kuusisto, died in February of this year. Also his mother, Marja-Liisa Kuusisto passed away during the current year.
Kuusisto started playing the violin at the age of three. Since then, he has become one of Finland’s best-known experts in the field.
