Violence against women, the story of Maria Antonietta Rositani

Maria Antonietta Rositani, the Calabrian woman sadly known in the news for having escaped the attempted murder by her ex-husband who set her on fire, has a calm, serious, determined air. Looking into her eyes you scrutinize much more. A strength of will and desire for freedom from violence that is not common to observe. Here’s what happened to her.

It was 2019 when the Calabrian woman escaped the murder attempt by her ex-husband who tried to set her on fire. Mrs. Rositani reported burns on 50 percent of the body and passed 20 months in hospital in intensive care And dozens of surgeries. The widespread burns on the lower limbswith extensive, relevant and deep fibrosis made them almost impossible the movement of the legs. “I was risking the wheelchair, now I’m happily chasing my granddaughter,” she says with tears in her eyes.

After violence, rebirth

After the surprising results obtained in the treatment of Mrs Filomena Lambertithe first acid victim in Italy, who even regained the sensitivity of his face, and whose case was published in the specialist journal Bioengineeringthanks to Biodermogenesi® and to the project RigeneraDerma, Also Maria Antonietta Rositani is reborn like the Arabian Phoenix.

Once she left the hospital, after 20 months of treatment as a burn victim, Marie Antoinette was taken under the wing of the doctors of Biodermogenesi®, 100% made in Italy methodology for the regeneration of skin tissues with numerous scientific studies to support it. They accompanied her on a journey of 10 free sessions to soothe the wounds, scars and fibrotization she had on 75% of her entire body. And it didn’t end here. To best recover all functions, pro bono treatments will continue in other cycles.

The RigeneraDerma Project: free scar treatments for 500 women

And here is the birth of pro bono RigeneraDerma project: free scar treatments will be made available for 500 women in Biodermogenesi® centers of excellence throughout the national territory, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people who need it and who are in economic difficulty.

Violence, the scars outside and inside

Gender violence often results in scars on the faces and bodies of victims. Each scar, in addition to functional damage, brings with it psychological and relational trauma and the belief that one cannot have a normal social life. To offer victims concrete help, Biodermogenesi® renews its commitment alongside women with the project RegenerateDerma. Presented last April in the Chamber of Deputies, offers free scar treatment to 500 people who cannot afford it. Partner of the project is the University of Verona. In addition to women victims of violence, the project is open to economically disadvantaged people of both sexes. The therapies will be provided entirely pro-bono in the centers with Biodermogenesi® methodology that join the initiative throughout the national territory.

Next November 14th Biodermogenesi® the therapeutic journey will begin in favor of another woman who is a symbol of gender violence: Pinky, the girl of Indian originborn and resident in Italy, who was attacked with fuel and then with flames in front of her children aged 2 and 5 by her ex-husband.

«Pinky is the symbolic trait d’union between Italy and India. In fact, the start of therapies for this courageous woman took place at the same time as the opening of a Biodermogenesi® therapeutic center for burnt and acid-attacked women in Mombay, India. Our first patient in India is a testimonial of excellence: Sneha Javale, the woman chosen by the BBC for her strength and for the example she offers daily for her desire to live a normal life despite having suffered an attack with the acid that disfigured her, and which today symbolizes the fight against violence against women in her country”, concludes Maurizio Busoni.

The results of treatment after violence

In Palermo, during the Health and Social Wellbeing Congress, the results obtained by Mrs. Rositani were presented: «We documented the three phases of treatment, initial, intermediate and final, using three tools: photos, the macroscopic aspect, i.e. what is visible to the naked eye, and ultrasound. After just a few sessions with Biodermogenesi® we found a greater skin elasticity which allowed Mrs. Rositani greater movement of her limbs. The improvement also concerned the skin texture: colour, softness, shine”, explains the Doctor Salvatore MarafiotiHospital Medical Director, breast specialist, general and aesthetic surgeon at the Santa Maria degli Ungheresi Hospital in Polistena, who accompanied Rositani throughout the treatment process.

The reappearance of hair and venous network

«Thanks to ultrasound we were able to observe the stratum corneum, epidermis, dermis and hypodermis and even the muscle tissue. All layers achieved improvement thanks to the care. In some parts we found the decrease in fibrosis detected at time 0, in other areas the fibrosis disappeared completely. Precisely in these areas of the body we have achieved a result that surprised us: the appearance of superficial venous network and the regrowth of the hair system.

Furthermore, ultrasoundally we found theabsence of the phlogistic state of the tissues, previously present not only in the three layers of the skin, but also at the muscular level. By phlogistic state we mean the inflammation of tissues at multiple levels. We can imagine it like a building on fire from the first to the last floor. Well, thanks to treatments with Biodermogenesi® methodology, now the fire was put out. Ultimately, truly significant results which, in my opinion, make Biodermogenesi® is the elective treatment also for burn scars. And Mrs. Rositani’s case is confirmation of this”, underlines Doctor Marafioti.

Scars: how to overcome fibrosis

The scar is much more complex than it appears on the surface. «In the case of Mrs. Rositani we obtained a functional improvement of the burned tissuewith a progressive reduction of fibrosis and a softening of the skin tissue which allowed a better functionality and motility of the lower limbs. In the patient, the fibrosis was so extensive and deep that it also compromised the normal muscular activity of the legs, consequently causing difficulty in walking regularly; the removal of these fibrosis has freed the muscles and now the patient moves with greater autonomy, even being able to do short runs”, he states Maurizio BusoniResearcher, Lecturer at the Master of Aesthetic Medicine of the University of Camerino and the University of Barcelona and Head of the RigeneraDerma Project.

A food journey for a multidisciplinary approach

«I would also like to thank the Doctor Claudio Pecorella, who carried out a double job: he analyzed the quality of the muscle tissue, highlighting the greater functionality gained during the sessions and created a nutritional path that allowed an anti-inflammatory and purifying action of his body, loaded with toxins resulting from the widespread burns. Finally, I would like to thank Dieta Medicale (Logistica Food srl, 65024 Manoppello (PE) – IT), a leading Italian company in the production of protein foods and for the ketogenic diet, which offered the food program free of charge to Mrs Rositani”, continues Busoni.

After the violence and treatment, a normal life

«I have become a symbol of the fight against violence against women. But the victims go help concretely like Biodermogenesi® did with me. I have known evil, but at the same time I have discovered the other side of the coin: the world is also a wonderful place. I received the love and the support of many people who rallied around me. Thanks to them and RigeneraDerma today I can dream of a normal life», concludes Mrs. Rositani.

How skin regeneration works

«Unlike other technologies which cause initial damage intended to stimulate tissue repair, Biodermogenesi® acts by directly promoting tissue repair. skin regeneration by providing three types of stimulation (vacuum, electromagnetic fields and very light electrical stimulation), it manages to reactivate the skin circulation, favoring the recovery of the normal caliber of the capillaries, with consequent oxygenation of the tissue. At the same time, electromagnetic fields favor formation of new elastic and collagen fibers which allow the skin tissue to be remodelled, bringing it closer to its best shape”, explains Busoni.

Together with Telefono Rosa against violence

L’National Association of Telefono Rosa Volunteers Onlus was born in Rome in February 1988 with the aim of denouncing and combating the terrible phenomenon of hidden violence, hidden within the home.
