Violence against women: Francesca De André must be helped and not beaten on television

“Giorgio, Giorgio! You’re holding those hands on Francesca’s face a little too much! ».

So spoke Barbara D’Urso, exactly three years ago, in an episode of Big Brother Vip that I have never forgotten. Giorgio was Giorgio Tabellini, Francesca De Andrè’s boyfriendthe same one that the daughter of the great singer-songwriter has just reported for beatings, after ending up in hospital with a disfigured face.

Francesca in one recent interview he said those beating began right after Gf Vip of 2019from which she had gone out engaged to another competitor, and then returned to stay with Giorgio, who had also confessed to having betrayed her while she was locked in the house.

When I read the news of the girl’s hospitalization, I went to take back the films of that May evening three years ago, when I was shocked by the repressed violence that this man, who entered the house in a state of evident agitation, expressed in every gesture.

Like shaking her head in his hands, a gesture that the presenter tried to block by screaming from the studio and chasing him away. Then I was struck by the attitude of Francesca who in any case defended her boyfriend with conviction, despite having just received confirmation of the betrayal from him.

There was something obviously “broken” in their behavior. His fury, but also that of hers, who also kept repeating to him: “I’ll give you a slap that makes you turn your head away.”

Subsequently, when Francesca had just left the house with the new boyfriend, D’Urso always invited the two in another transmission to face Giorgio.

On that occasion it seemed to me that the young woman had finally freed herself from that obviously toxic bond, choosing a more calm boy and apparently very much in love with her.

Seeing what happened today gave me the same doubt that assailed me three years ago, namely whether that media exposure of a sick relationship was appropriate without the necessary “subtitles”.

Today I’m sure: the only thing to do with Francesca was to help her solve her problems in the right places. Certainly not in prime time.
