Vingegaard helper Roglic gives up at the Tour de France

Jonas Vingegaard must continue defending his yellow jersey at the Tour de France without his most prominent aide.

As the Jumbo-Visma team announced on Sunday, Primoz Roglic will not start the 15th stage from Rodez to Carcassonne and will give up the race. As in the previous year, the Slovenian ended the Tour of France prematurely due to the consequences of a fall.

Roglic fell on stage five and dislocated his shoulder. The 32-year-old put his shoulder back in place and continued the race. However, the hope of the first overall victory on the tour was gone due to the loss of time.

Roglic used himself as a helper for leader Vingegaard, but was now apparently at the end of his strength. The three-time Vuelta winner was already left behind on the way to Mende on Saturday and lost about twelve minutes to the favorites.

“I am proud of my contribution to the current standings and trust that the team will achieve our yellow-green ambitions,” said Roglic.
