Vince Clarke mourns the loss of his wife Tracy Hurley Martin. She succumbed to stomach cancer at the age of 53 after a two-year battle. Martin leaves behind their son Oscar and her twin sister, the filmmaker Tonya Hurley.
Erasure colleague Andy Bell is among the mourners. The duo’s singer wrote on social media: “I’m at a loss for words. My heart, soul and all my love to Vincent and Oscar, Tonya, Michael & Isabelle, and all of Tracy’s family and friends. May God bless our beloved Tracy.”
Vince Clarke’s first solo album, “Songs Of Silence”, was dominated by Tracy Hurley Martin’s cancer. Clarke has not yet commented on his wife’s death.
Vince Clarke’s first solo album “Songs Of Silence” was released on November 17, 2023. The co-founder of Depeche Mode, Erasure and Yazoo provided a foretaste of his record with the singles “The Lamentations of Jeremiah” and “White Rabbit”. But before his work could even see the light of day, the artist was already thinking about his next project.
“My partner Andy Bell and I hope to get together towards the end of the year and start working on Erasure’s new album,” Clarke told dpa in London. “I’m slowly concentrating fully on it,” he continues.
The synth-pop duo joined forces in the mid-1980s and celebrated hits like “Sometimes,” “Always” and “Oh! L’Amour” achieved worldwide success. In 2022, the musicians released their nineteenth studio album “Day-Glo (Based on a True Story)”, which was created by reconstructing some tracks from the previous album “The Neon”.
Apparently Clarke is longing for the fast Erasure tracks again after filling his upcoming solo work with calm – almost meditative – sounds. “I have no particular interest in making an album like this again,” said the British songwriter about his record “Songs Of Silence”. It was fun and he’s sure he’ll “come back to it in some way or form, but I really don’t have any concrete plans,” said the artist.
