At the same time, Vilma Nissinen took a stand on appearance pressures.

Cross-country skier Vilma Nissinen poses without clothes in Helsingin Sanomat’s Monthly Supplement In the Soul & Ruumis story series.
Nissinen, 25, told in the story how his mother has always said that a skier has the legs of a gazelle, long and skinny. The 172-centimeter Nissinen states that he is more muscular as more and more training years have accumulated.
– Cross-country skiers have many different bodies, but they are usually united by being in good shape, Nissinen told HS.
According to the skier, social media does not cause him appearance pressure, although he sometimes compares himself to others.
Nissinen also said that every year he publishes a bold picture of himself on his birthday. In this way, he gets a memory of himself every year, when everyday life has not been so present.
– It’s nice to show a different side of yourself from time to time.
Nissinen spoke to Iltalehte about his annual tradition a year ago.
He said at the time that he wanted to communicate equality with his pictures. He also stressed that he does not seek attention with his pictures.
– Basically, it annoys me that men can do what men like. If they put a picture of them wearing boxers, it’s cool and fun. When a woman does it, it’s attention-seeking and it causes a stir. It bothers me. That’s why I’m going to continue posting my own pictures.
Nissinen also said that it’s nice to make more content on social media than just skiing.
– If it upsets something, it’s not worth following. That’s my style.
