Finland’s crushing game style has emerged over the years.
Six matches and six wins. No losses. Goal ratio 22–8. No goals were scored for the Lions net in the most even games after the opening match.
The lions were even superior in the Beijing puck tournament.
– It was such a stable thing again. With the factory warranty, the Lions took Olympic gold. The finale was a great game, a lion legend Ville Peltonen opened his feelings to Iltalehti.
In his long career, Peltonen won four Olympic medals, among other things. The puck legend recalls the importance of the whole behind the big wins. Everything has to work in a team.
On and off the ice.
– The warm feeling came for all the winners. Acknowledgments should extend to caregivers and other staff. The entire management team has worked hard with the players to make a big win.
– Insane thing.
Familiar and engaging
Head coach Jukka Jalonen and his adjutants feel the formula for winning with their patents. Jalonen already grabbed his fourth big tournament win.
It came in a familiar way of playing. Players know it, and most of all, players want to follow it from one tournament to another.
– Everyone on Jalonen’s team knows how to play in Leijon. The level of demand is high. Expectations today are always high in value tournaments, it raises the bar.

– When there is room to attack, then let’s go. When it comes to defending, then defending. One-on-one situations are played with care. There are no miracles in it. Everyone is committed to working together and to a goal, HIFK’s head coach says.
94 years
Finland became a member of the International Hockey Association in connection with the St. Moritz Winter Games in 1928. In a way, Finland chased the gold medal for the Olympic men’s hockey for 94 years.
The win raises the profile of hockey in the country.
– If you think about what tournament wins Finland was missing, then this was it. What is missing is the victory of a tournament that is not even held on a regular basis, namely the World Cup.
– This was a very puck tournament that can be won. This is extremely important for Finnish hockey.
