Tampere’s Tappara felt no mercy on Wednesday against HIFK, when the hosts beat the team from Helsinki by a crushing score of 8–2.
After the match at the press conference we saw two coaches with opposite feelings. Tappara’s orderer Jussi Tapola stayed true to his style and didn’t beat anyone but praised HIFK’s quality resistance.
– HIFK played fair and well the whole time. It was a high-level hockey game, even though the numbers were different, Tapola elaborated.
Head coach of the visiting team Ville Peltonen admitted that his team experienced a humiliation in Tampere. According to the coach, the preparation for the game that offered important points was not successful at all, which usually means a bad evening when visiting Tampere.
– Today we failed in that on a big front. All these games are important. The importance of this game may have become too big for us internally.
– Tappara was well charged and won most of the fight. Our goal front play was not at the level it should be against Tappara, and it caused a little depression or nervousness.

HIFK’s goalkeeper situation is worrying. Against Tappara, HIFK had to put a 17-year-old in the goal Eemil Vinni for the first Liiga start of his career. Even before the set break, Vinni made room for another debutant Severi Souka22.
– It’s pointless to blame Emppua and Seve for this result, Peltonen defended.
Rejected the glory season Roope Taponen and Niilo Halonen are injured on the sidelines. Peltonen did not offer any additional information about the situation of Taponen, who was injured on Tuesday.
– Exactly the same situation as before the game. He’s on the sidelines.
HIFK continues its away game tour on Friday in Kouvola. The head coach believes that the team will get over Tampere’s dark experiences.
– Of course, this kind of humiliation is a lesson. The biggest lesson is certainly on the side of preparation. Let’s deal with it quickly and move on.
