Ville Koivunen admitted: The Lions were left at the feet of the USA

When the fighting demand of the game increased, Finland fell off the bandwagon.

Ville Koivunen admitted that Finland had no choice against the United States in the final game of the preliminary series of the World Cup. PDO

Finland’s under-20 ice hockey team ended its preliminary series at the World Championships in Moncton with a lackluster performance. The United States beat the Young Lions coolly 6–2.

In the first half of the opening set, Finland was riding the Americans. It was a miracle that the score was only 1-1 at the break.

Joakim Kemellin scored with a nice shot in the opening set of Finland’s goal.

– At the beginning, we were on the scaffolding when the guy came hard on top of us. It was like fathers against sons at the beginning, the number one chain Ville Koivunen tightly.

– We didn’t get pucks and we lost singles matches, Koivunen continued.

Better

In the second set, the United States already took a 4–1 lead. At the end of the set, Lenni Hämeenaho reduced the situation to 2–4.

– In the second set, the game was improved. At times we played a really good game, Kärppien Koivunen continued.

In the third period, the USA scored two more goals. Finland didn’t really get a proper pressure going at any point.

– The guy played really well in the last set. Yes, this game was a big disappointment.

Preparation?

The start of the match was weak from Finland. Koivunen does not admit that the team’s preparation has failed.

– Everything was done in the same way as before. I thought there was a good feeling in the team. I guess there was something there when it went like that, Koivunen thought.

Where are you going?

The USA was well ahead of Finland throughout the match. A young and energetic team showed the direction of the game’s development.

Many of the players of the Young Lions play in the League. Many League teams play a trap and slow game. When the game’s struggle and tempo demand at the international level increases, Finnish players may not be able to meet it.

– It was a very tough hockey match today. From the first exchange. I saw that the bet was hard, a group win. The demands of the game were tough, that’s all you can say, said the head coach Tomi Lämsa.

– We were good in the second half. But stupid ice breaks were taken. We weren’t smart enough today to have been caught up in the result.

The international development of the disc should be closely followed in Finland. The big clubs in the league play a key role in that.
