The Spanish first division soccer team FC Villarreal has brought Marcelino back as coach.
As the club announced on Monday, the 58-year-old signed a contract until 2026. At the beginning of the season, the Spaniard was still in office at Olympique Marseille, but the French parted ways with him after just seven games after massive fan protests.
Marcelino worked as a coach at Villarreal from 2013 to 2016. At that time he had supervised 177 competitive games and led the team from the second Spanish league to the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Villarreal is currently only in 14th place with twelve points, and after Quique Setien and Pacheta, who was fired on Friday, Marcelo is the third head coach of the “Yellow Submarine” this season.
