It is a difficult task, but it now seems to be getting a little easier: get off the gas. All village houses in Central Drenthe must achieve this before 2040. After political interference, the municipality will make not two, but eight thousand euros available for sustainability in the coming years.
“We certainly celebrated that,” laughs Albert Gils, chairman of Stichting Dorpshuizen Midden-Drenthe. “The budget was discussed on Thursday evening. When the councilor announced it, we almost went through the roof with joy.”
Midden-Drenthe initially wanted to free up €200,000 for village houses to make them more sustainable by 2024. In the years that followed, the intention was to invest another €200,000 every year, but it was not yet concrete. Politicians took action and the councilor made a commitment for an extra budget in the coming years. The extra money comes from the proceeds of the Leemdijk solar park near Smilde, which is owned by the municipality.
