A handsome Finnish surprise was seen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen during the Central European Hill Week.

18-year-old mountain week debutant Vilho Palosaari bounced off the HS 142 hill 125 meters, with which he claimed the place in the second round. The youngster’s ranking in the opening round was 27th.

Palosaari lost in the opening round to his partner, a Norwegian For Kristoffer Sundal, but the performance was still enough to continue. The best five of the losing jumpers made it to the second round.

Hill legend Janne Ahonen told Iltalehte that Palosaari is going to the mountain week for the time being mainly to learn and gather experience for the future. Considering the starting points, the young jumper’s stretch was a tough performance.

Palosaari was also the best Finn in the first race of the mountain week in Oberstdorf. At that time, he was ranked 34th.

Antti Aalto was narrowly out of the continuation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He also jumped 125 meters, but the ranking was 31st.

Halvor Egner Granerund was the first in the opening round with a jump of 140 meters.

The race is on. Palosaari has already jumped his second jump, which carried 125.5 meters.
