As the descendant of a wealthy family, Sander knows how many opportunities the rich have and that is why he has a mission: to expose opportunity inequality. Like every episode, the program maker went in search of extremes this week. He visited two millennials, brother and sister, who spend 1500 euros every month on optimizing their health. He also visited a very luxurious home for the elderly. Elite elderly that is, because to be allowed to live there you have to dig deep into your pockets.
House full of mold
Sandra lives on the other side of the gorge, coincidentally in Schimmelpenninckstraat in Schiedam. It is a moldy house that falls under social rent. Sander is shocked by the situation: black mold, damp spots and rotten windows that can no longer be closed. Sandra suffers from asthma which makes life in that house unsafe for her. But so far she has not received an urgent statement, new home or help to improve her current home.
dental bill
That’s not all: the Schiedamse only has thirty euros a month to spend. Some time ago, several teeth broke off in her mouth, forcing her to go to the dentist. She received a bill of 57 euros for this and a second bill will follow.
Regulation
For Sandra, that first bill already equals two months of living allowance. She hopes that the bill can be paid through an arrangement, because she simply does not have the money. Making such an arrangement just takes a very long time and all that waiting causes a lot of stress.
Comments
The viewers of Sander and the gorge very shocked by Sandra’s situation. They let it be known en masse that it affects them and that they find it ‘inconceivable’ that this woman is left to her fate.
