Highest average at BVB
Football Germany is number two in Europe in terms of spectator numbers, and not just because of the Bundesliga. According to a report on the talent and competitive landscape of European clubs published by UEFA on Thursday, a total of 28.9 million fans attended the games of German professional and amateur clubs for men and women in the 2022/23 season. Only England (44.5 million) is ahead of Germany in this audience ranking. Spain follows in third place (22.2) ahead of Italy (21.4).
Average attendance in Europe: There were the most fans in these stadiums in 2022/23
Overall, UEFA calculated a total of 209 million stadium visitors from the surveys. The 109 million viewers in the top national leagues made a significant contribution to this. That is an increase of four percent compared to the previous best value from the 2018/19 season. Afterwards, the number of spectators collapsed due to the measures taken during the corona pandemic. Since then, not only the number of spectators has increased again, but also the expenditure on player transfers. Also because Saudi Arabia was heavily involved this year, a record expenditure is being recorded here.
BVB currently has, on average, the most spectators at home games in Europe, ahead of FC Bayern. There are also two German second division teams in the top 15: Schalke and HSV.
