Dries Roelvink and other celebrities who sing ‘gospel’ led by presenter Giovanca Ostiana is not a hit with TV viewers. Even worse? This show, Amazing Grace, arouses the wrath of Angela de Jong.
The Giovanca Ostiana show Amazing Grace, in which celebrities sing gospel, started on NPO 1 with 828 thousand viewers (19% market share) on Sunday evening. Certainly not a viewing figure flop, but given the 2.9 million viewers (55%) who scored Farmer Searches Woman at the same time last week, it is all a bit disappointing.
Angela is angry
Angela de Jong, the feared opinion diva of the AD, has been watching the program with crooked toes. She speaks of a rip-off of Best Singers in which it ‘supposedly’ revolves around gospel. “I say so-called, because the term is treated with remarkably flexible ways,” she sighs in her column†
The EO just spits in the face of the gospel genre, Angela thinks. “Dries Roelvink who sings Kleine Jongen by André Hazes is also gospel in the eyes of the makers. Gee, never knew. I can’t wait for the episode where I’m going to swim in Bacardi Lemon.”
Sneer at Charly
According to Angela, a B artist who sings folk music with a gospel choir is not gospel music at all. According to her, gospel must contain a Christian message. “And that at the EO”, says the startled TV columnist.
The field of participants is also to cry, according to Angela. “I wondered among the participants whether this was really EO, or just another Talpa panel show. Take Charly Luske, who sells dirty talk to 20-year-olds on social media. Is that what the Evangelische Omroep wants to propagate in 2022?”
Caroline is growing
Back to the viewing figures: Caroline Tensen sees the score of One against 50 growing now that Farmer Searches Woman has made way for Amazing Grace, but the viewership growth is not very spectacular. Plus, she still has to settle for silver in her timeslot. She climbs from 672 thousand viewers (15%) to 809 thousand viewers (19%) on RTL 4.
The winners at half past nine were Het Dorp with 1.1 million viewers (24%) on NPO 1, Humberto with 644 thousand viewers (17%) on RTL 4 and Nieuwsuur with 512 thousand viewers (12%) on NPO 2.
SBS 6 closes the top 15 viewership with Undercover in the Netherlands (450 thousand and 10%) and Million Dollar Island (454 thousand and 11%).
Viewing figures
Programs that did not make the top 15 include College Tour (402 thousand), Buitenhof (387 thousand), WNL op Zondag (359 thousand) and Danny’s Wereld (314 thousand).
