The last carnival parade in Southeast Drenthe is traditionally the one on Rosenmontag in Barger-Compascuum. This Monday it was that time again and thousands of fans of the festival of fools came to the village.

This time in Stiekelstad, as Barger-Compascuum is called during carnival, 47 floats and 16 running groups participated. The weather conditions had sometimes been less favorable. There was a heavy shower before the start, but during the parade it remained dry, to the relief of the carnival goers.

The organization estimates that there were about ten thousand spectators in the village of approximately two thousand inhabitants. Barger-Compascuum was the first village in Southeast Drenthe with a carnival association. Carnival club ‘t Stiekelzwien has existed since 1965.
