In Roermond, the youth and the elderly were warmed up for carnival on Friday. Youth prince Joep III is in charge this year. Not only about the youth, but about all mainland residents in Roermond, in the absence of an adult city prince.
As an alternative to the Sjolefestasie and the Sjtasiefestasie, a red double-decker bus runs through Roermond for two days.
‘More fun than fun’
On Friday the bus went to schools and care institutions and on Saturday they go into the neighborhoods with performances by various artists. Joep stands as a radiant centerpiece on top of the deck of the bus. “It’s very cosy. Everyone dances along happily. It’s just more fun than fun”, is how the Roermond youth prince describes this day.
Unorganized procession
Besides the bus tour and the reception of Prince Joep on Sunday, nothing else will be officially organized during this carnival by Sjtadsvastelaovesvereniging D’n Uul. But according to Prince Dirk Franssen there is ‘a whole lot of disorganized organization’, as he puts it. “I know that a lot is happening on the Roerkade and the Stationsplein. On Monday there will be an unorganized procession through the city center.”
There is also a different interpretation for Tuesday than usual on the Roerkade, according to Franssen.
