Valkenburg
The high water has caused moderate nuisance in the municipality of Valkenburg in some places.

This is how high the water has risen in Valkenburg:

Valkenburg was also hit hard by the high water last summer. However, according to mayor Daan Prevoo, the high water level is no reason to panic. “It looks like a solid, wintry body of water that normally occurs,” he said Monday morning.

Rainfall
The rising water level is the result of heavy rainfall on Sunday. More than 40 millimeters fell in some places, an amount that normally falls in more than two weeks.

Also last summer, the Geul flooded after heavy rain showers, causing considerable damage. The Limburg water board says it is keeping a close eye on the current situation and taking measures where necessary.
