Video: Roy Curvers leads the sprint train again | 1Limburg

Roy Curvers from Haelen is again leader of a sprint train. No longer as a cyclist, but now as a team leader. Curvers is now setting out the guidelines for Team DSM.

In addition to his attention for his own team, Curvers also watched Wout Poels, who won the Ruta del Sol, on Sunday.

sprint guns
Curvers experienced all sprint successes with Team Sunweb, and all predecessors of that team. With Marcel Kittel and John Degenkolb, that team had sprint guns that won stages in grand tours and also won classics. As a road captain, Curvers was always an important pivot in the sprint train. And when he was asked to take charge of the sprint train as a team leader at Team DSM, the successor of Team Sunweb, he didn’t have to think twice. “My heart is there a little more than finishing uphill,” says Curvers in EveningGuests Sports

Personal assistance
The former cyclist thinks his experience can help. “I’m burning to help those men.” The Limburger is on the road about 50 days a year. He is mainly present at training camps and on race days. “I personally supervise ten men who belong to our sprint group. In addition to sprinting, I also supervise them in career planning, competition preparation and their tactical development.” In the coming months, Curvers will mainly be located in Belgium. “After that I will focus on the Grand Tours, with the Giro d’Italia as the first.”

Curvers enjoyed the win of fellow provincial Wout Poels in the Ruta del Sol on Sunday. “This is Wout Poels’ strength. He can drive all year round, but if he can grab something he’s on top of it. The Ruta del Sol is not an easy race.” Curvers hopes to see Poels even more often this year. “I don’t think he should drive for a top five finish in the general classification, but drive in a free role and try to grab a ride in a Grand Tour.”
