Yes, there is increased media visibility of LGBTQ+ issues and also much greater political support for the queer scene, but that doesn’t mean there will be discrimination and a lack of social participation for people who openly profess their diverse sexuality , would be off the table.
The Berlin singer-songwriter wrote a combative but feather-light sounding song for Pride Month in June, which focuses on the topic of visibility for queer people. It’s also about representation of a scene – and that’s why the singer got support from all over Germany.
Over 16 clubs and queer networks from over ten cities contributed to the music video that ROLLING STONE will premiere on Friday (June 2nd). The musician supports other initiatives with her song.
The song was created in co-operation with producer and multi-instrumentalist Ekki Maas (including Erdmöbel) in Cologne. The singer has also worked with Maas in the past.
In a statement about “We want everything” it says: “The trigger and thus the cornerstone for the creation of the song was the cancellation of a Netflix series that was very popular in the scene. A fate that has befallen many TV shows with strong queer characters in recent years and is increasingly causing loud displeasure. But not least due to the latest developments in the USA, in which numerous laws criminalize and endanger the lives of homosexual and transsexual people, a song about representation and visibility in the media has quickly become something fundamental.”
With lines like “We are experts at reading between the lines/There are multi-page anamneses for every moment/Yes, even the fleeting word becomes a novel here/And if there’s a smile, we still think about it days later/ And everything, everything we want, remains a happy ending,” Anika Auweiler calls for more sensitivity for people who belong to the LGBTQ+ community to summery electro beats. A song that can be proudly played at any CSD.
