Konings explains that the employment agency where he works started recruiting older employees five years ago. Older people have more life experience, he notes. “They are often a bit calmer and can handle a situation differently.”

According to Konings, older people are increasingly entering an employment agency and that is necessary: ​​there are currently more vacancies than available applicants. “Apart from the labor market, it is a positive development in any case. A mixed file is desirable for every company.”

‘Don’t hold up your hand’
The 64-year-old Venlo native Will Trienekes from Venlo is looking for work after he recently lost his job. He does not want an early retirement. “If you can participate, you should do it. Not holding up the hand, but action.”

Three quarters of the Dutch population between the ages of 50 and 65 is employed.
