The deputy of Together for Change Martín Tetaz and the Secretary of Industry Jose Ignacio de Mendiguren they starred in a tense crossover on the show “Two Voices” (TN). De Mendiguren showed a graph showing that 192,000 families had found private employment during the current administration. Tetaz, pretending to be funny, used a reprehensible example to counter the official’s argument. “If I zoom in on your head I will find a region that has hair, but we all know that this is not reality,” mocked the radical deputy, who also insisted that an enlarged view of the graph allowed “to see the stagnation of the private employment.
Tetaz acknowledged that economic activity has recovered recently, but insisted that activity “is stagnant” since December last year and that the industry is “below the level” of that same month. And he spoke of a stagnation of the exports that would take, according to his point of view, “18 years”.
For his part, De Mendiguren accused the Cambiemos government of having generated a “financial bicycle” by allowing the free entry of capital, raising the interest rate and ironing the exchange rate, policies that, according to the official, make the country ” ends badly” each time they are applied. To which Tetaz retorted: “The rate of your government was double that of the beginning of the previous government (…). Those rates for which you cried on all the television channels, are the ones your government has now”.
Throughout the discussion, other topics of economic problems such as the dollar appeared. De Mendiguren accused the macrista management of having been inconsistent with the economic policy, stating that “they started by saying that the trap had to be removed, they ended up putting a trap. They started taking out withholdings and ended up putting in withholdings” “It was the best cabinet of the last 50 years. They released rates and then froze them. They ended up defaulting,” said De Mendiguren.
When it came to inflation, De Mendiguren showed a graph with data from the government of Mauricio Macri to question his handling of it. “You are missing the last few years, what a coincidence, right?” Tetaz chicaned, after which De Mendiguren ironically said that the Cambiemos government was an “inflation specialist” and that “they fixed it by taquito” (Macri’s phrase that comes to light every time the subject is discussed), in reference to the serious inflationary problems with which the macrismo ended its mandate.
