On Instagram circulates a Deepfake as simple as effective: Economy Minister Luis “Toto” Caputo -with the face mounted on the already famous clip of Rodrigo de Paul, the player of the National Team- puts scores to the economic salvages that, over the years, Argentina received. The review starts in 1824 with Baring Brothers. The video verdict is almost a historic wink: “It was used at that time.” It was the first great external loan of the independent stage and ended in Tango and Default. More than a solution, a pattern inaugurated: when dollars are missing, the country is looking for outside.

Then jump towards the end of the dictatorship. In 1982, private debt nationalization took a 10: in flat words, the State suddenly took debts in dollars that owed companies and charged them to the public account. He won time, but the backpack was also enlarged, which would later have to carry democracy.

With 1983 the agreement with the IMF arrives after the institutional return. The video puts it 8. It was a rescue to avoid immediate collapse and order the basics: box, payments, signals. He did not heal the disease, but he lowered the fever and allowed him to start again.

In 1992 the Brady Plan appears, with score 7. It was the exchange that normalized the relationship with the creditors and reopened access to credit, going from broken promises to new papers and clearer rules. He achieved to stabilize a stage, but not to shield the future.

Already in 2018, the IMF returns to the scene with the biggest program in its recent history and, in the meme, receives 10 points. In real life, the numbers did not accompany: the flow of dollars bought oxygen, but the volatility continued and the agreement ended up renegotiating. Caputo, in addition, was a direct protagonist of that chapter: first as Minister of Finance in the Negotiation and then at the head of the Central Bank in full turbulence.

The closure is 2025, with another four -year fund program, Score 9. The official idea: Revoke reservations and loosen step by step restrictions. The challenge, as always, is in execution: goals, politics, social patience. With borrowed silver it can be ordered; Without background changes, it returns to the starting point.

It is clear and easy: known names, simple scores and a timeline that anyone follows. And leaves a strong irony: in two minutes it shows that the “patches” are repeated; Rescues give air for a while, but they don’t change fate. That is why the last line hits more than any graphic.

The clip closes with the false Caputo-de Paul saying: “I improved over the years, huh?” It sounds ingenious, but it is also an uncomfortable mirror: time passes, the faces change, the scores varies but Argentina continues to fight with the same background problems.
