In recent years, his son Max has been in the spotlights, but last Saturday Jos Verstappen was once again the center of all cameras. The former Formula 1 driver made his rally debut in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, during the Haspengouw Rally.
And Verstappen did that more than creditably with a top ten ranking in the final standings.
Coronavirus
Verstappen was actually supposed to be at the start of a rally in Assen last fall, but that race was canceled due to the corona virus. Last Saturday, Verstappen was finally allowed to get behind the wheel again. Together with navigator Kris Botson, he finished eighth in his Citroën C3 R5: “I am happy that we finished. It has been a good learning experience”, said the Limburger afterwards.
Max Verstappen
Jos had contact with his son several times on Saturday. “I called him three times and he loved it.” Jos will drive his next rally in three weeks, one day before the start of the new Formula 1 season in Bahrain. “I’m not in Bahrain, but it doesn’t have to be. Max knows very well what to do.”
