Victory in the top game against Juventus

Supercup winners Inter Milan have won the top game of the Italian Serie A and extended their lead in the battle for the Scudetto over rivals Juventus Turin.

The 19-time champion won the 209th Derby d’Italia 1-0 (1-0) and also ended an impressive series for the Turin team with their sixth win in a row. The Old Lady was recently unbeaten in 17 league games in a row. Inter’s last league defeat also happened in September of the previous year.

The lively duel in San Siro was decided by an own goal from Juventus defender Federico Gatti (37th), who unfortunately steered a long ball into the penalty area into his own goal with his stomach. Overall, Inter had significantly more of the game, but were unable to add any more goals. Juve’s attempts to create opportunities through counterattacks were also unsuccessful. Inter are now four points ahead of the record champions and have also played one less game.

Champion SSC Naples achieved a 2-1 (0-0) win against Hellas Verona. The defending champion remained undefeated for the third time in a row in what has been a disappointing season so far and, as seventh in the table, is at least sniffing out international places again (35 points).

Lazio Rome, on the other hand, suffered their first league defeat of the year. Bayern’s round of 16 opponents in the Champions League lost 1:3 (0:2) to Atalanta Bergamo ten days before the first leg in Rome. While Atalanta in fourth place continues towards the premier class, the Romans in ninth place remain far behind their expectations.
