New date for mega fight between Fury and Usyk has been set

The highly anticipated clash between two boxing giants has been rescheduled. Reason for postponement: Injury to one of the participants.

The heavyweight unification fight between boxing world champions Tyson Fury (35/England) and Alexander Usyk (37/Ukraine) has been rescheduled one day after the cancellation. As the promoter Queensberry explained on Saturday, the megafight is now scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh on May 18th, a good three months later than initially planned.

Fury suffered a deep cut above his eye during sparring, which made it impossible for him to take part in the fight originally scheduled for February 17th, it was announced on Friday.

WBC world champion Fury (35 fights, 34 wins, one draw) would like to be crowned undisputed world champion against WBA, WBO and IBF champion Usyk (21 fights, 21 wins). Fury’s British compatriot Lennox Lewis last won this status in 1999. At that time, the holder of the WBA, WBC and IBF belts was considered undisputed.
